Free School Meals

Could your child be entitled to Free School Meals (FSM)?

The Department for Education is aware that not all students who are entitled to receive free school meals have applied to take them.  The application process is simple and straightforward and we would strongly encourage all those families who have an entitlement to apply even if they do not wish to take their free school meal as any successful application would also provide additional funding to the Academy.

You are entitled to free school meals for your family if you receive:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Job Seeker Allowance
  • Universal Credit
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The Guarantee element of State Pension Credit (from 30 April 2005)
  • Child Tax Credit (but not if you also get Working Tax Credit) and the household income (as used by HMRC to assess tax credits) is not more than £16,190.

Please be assured as we operate a biometric, cashless system at the Academy, neither staff or other students will have any way of identifying students in receipt of free school meals.

If you feel that your child is entitled to free school meals you will need to complete an application form which can be obtained from the Academy’s reception or by downloading one from the bottom of this page. When completed it needs to be returned to the Academy.  If your child is presently receiving free school meals you do not need to complete an additional application.  The Local Authority, Free School Meals Team will be regularly checking to confirm any ongoing entitlements and will notify us accordingly.

Please note that all enquiries and applications to the Academy are dealt with in a discreet manner and information received is kept confidential at all times.
