Our Curriculum

Our curriculum is designed to be broad, balanced and aspirational supporting all students to achieve to their full potential. Students follow courses which prepare them effectively for the next stage of their education and their adult life. The Curriculum helps students to stay safe and provides good opportunities for personal development, and a strong ethos of Christian values, care and support permeates throughout the Academy.

Timetabled lessons are supplemented by a wide range of additional educational programmes that provide extension, support and guidance for students with specific learning needs. All students are supported to make informed decisions as they progress on their learning journey through the Academy and beyond.

Our highly committed teachers and support staff plan relevant and engaging lessons to ensure that each student enjoys learning and succeeds. Teaching is accompanied by practical and effective assessment systems so that students know how to improve and teachers can plan their lessons according to students' needs. We report on student progress to parents six times each academic year.

There is a programme of regular staff development to ensure that teaching continues to embody best practice from around the world. 

Within a culture of high expectations, St Peter's C of E Academy nurtures and develops the individual gifts, talents and interests of each student. In support of this, the Academy structure ensures that each student is supported, constantly engaged and always has a port of call for any concerns. Students are part of small cohorts of students with dedicated Raising Standards Leaders. This person is the main point of contact for parents. Tutors provide additional advice, guidance and encouragement to small groups and to individuals and remain with their tutor group through out year 7 to 11.

We are committed to personalising our provision for all students, including those with special talents or educational needs, in an inclusive mainstream setting. Students with particular needs (as identified by our careful monitoring) may benefit from additional support to access the curriculum effectively or, if they have marked aptitudes, may need specialist support to ensure they reach their full potential.

The spiritual and pastoral life of the Academy is a high priority for us. In assembly and Religious Education everyone is welcome, everyone is included and everyone is respected. Students from all faiths and none are encouraged to explore beliefs and values.

As a Church of England Academy, Religious Education is an integral aspect of each student's education. Whilst the curriculum gives priority to the teachings of Christianity it also recognises diversity and teaches students about the other principal religions and treats each with integrity and respect.
