Operation Christmas Child

Operation Chirstmas Child

This term, at St. Peter’s Academy, we are actively getting involved with spreading a message of joy and hope to children around the world.

We are asking each form group to pack a medium sized shoebox with small gifts and sweets as part of Operation Christmas Child, run by the charity ‘Samaritan’s Purse’. Each form will decide whether they are making their box for a boy or girl within the following age ranges – 2-4 years, 5-9 years and 10-14 years old.

These shoeboxes are received indiscriminately by children and are given freely to youngsters of all backgrounds and faiths, some of whom would not receive a gift at this time of year.

The shoeboxes could contain the following items –

  • Toys: Bear, soft toy, tennis ball, finger puppet, jigsaw, yo-yo, building blocks, small musical instrument. For boys; trucks and cars, for girls; dolls, clip on earrings, etc.
  • Educational Supplies: Felt pens, pens, pencils, pencil sharpener, eraser, colouring book, notepad, picture or puzzle book, chalk, pencil case, stickers, solar calculators etc.
  • Hygiene Items: Toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, comb, hair clips, bar of soap, flannel, etc.
  • Other Items: Sweets (sell-by date to be at least March of the following year), gloves, scarf, sunglasses, cap, hat, bangles, necklaces, friendship bracelets etc.

The shoeboxes should also contain a donation of £3.00, placed in an envelope, which covers the cost of shipping the boxes abroad. It is important that the shoeboxes contain no toys of a political, violent or religious nature (i.e. toy guns) or any glass items. Similarly, the charity requests that no liquids, chocolate items or novels are included in the shoeboxes.

It is hoped that each form member will be able to make a small contribution to completing their form box. In addition, if you would like to complete your own box, please include a selection of items listed above and wrap an ordinary shoe box in Christmas paper (with a loose lid). All boxes or contributions must be returned to the academy by Monday 16th November.

Please take the time to watch the video in the link below to see they joy and happiness that this project brings to disadvantaged children all over the world.
