Potteries Science Festival – Engineering Challenge Champions

It was a real honour representing St Peter’s Academy in the Potteries Science Festival. We were challenged to build a spaghetti tower as high as possible in the Academy against other students and as the winners of this we went forward to represent the Academy against Thistley Hough and Excel Academies. We were given the task of building a bridge to pass over a glue stick and to span an A4 piece of card. The winners were decided by measuring how much mass the bridges could take. Our structure held 1.2kg beating Excel with 1.1kg and Thistley Hough with 0.5kg. Our superb planning helped us to beat the others with a well-engineered bridge. It makes us very proud to win the award, win a trophy and a prize of visiting Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College next term to use the Wave Rider programme to experience 3D interactive design. We really enjoyed the experience and in particularly seeing the look of excitement on Mr Price’s face when we won.
