U16 County Cup versus Alleynes Academy, Stone

St Peter's CofE got off to a cracking start opening the scoring within the 1st 10 minutes.

A quick break down the right flank by Lewis Wilkinson saw the ball relay across to the back post to Aaron Rafiq who powered the ball home with control from about 14 yards out. However, the lead did not last long as SPA conceded within 5 minutes after some sloppy play at the back.

The rest of the 1st half was a battle between the two 18 yd boxes with little opportunity to score other than a few long range attempts that went flying high or wide or both. Just prior to the half time whistle the defence seemed to loose concentration again which let Alleynes in to score again.

HT Alleynes 2 - 1 SPA

Following a positive team talk and few technical matters addressed the boys went out for the second half. Within 5 minutes an Alleynes player had got the wrong side of our right back that created their 3rd goal - 3-1 with what seemed a mountain to climb!

Into the last 15 minute with the changes made for tactical and injury reasons, after Jack Bradbury went off with a calf problem. Connor Taylor was pushed into a midfield role from centre back as we chased the game. Connor then literally drove the team to victory making surging run after surging run. Alleynes had no answer to these. With 2 minutes left, 2 of Connors runs had taken the score 3 - 3. One final drive from Taylor produced a winner to seal the win and a hat-trick for Connor.

Other performances to note were Connor Walton for deputising in goal who made some great blocks, Josh Evans who had a superb game at left back, Lewis Wilkinson and Adam Hilditch for working tirelessly. Overall it was a very determined effort for them all on a very heavy pitch!

Well done and onto the next round!
