Year 9 Girls Level 3 County Games Badminton

Wednesday 17th January saw the county school games competition being held at Clayton High School.  This competition puts together all the city champions in the area including Tamworth Stafford etc. Our girls team was Megan Hollins, Courtney Barwise, Rosie Tomkinson, Claire Pisira and Jasmin Mohemmedi.

The competition was run in two groups. We were in group A with Paulet School, Wilnecot and King Edward VI. The girls played fantastically with some great leadership from Claire and some lovely shots by Jasmin to win all the group games beating Paulet 4-1 and Wilnecot and King Edward VI 3-2.

In the Semi Final, the girls came across a very fit and strong St Dominic’s Team from Stone who took advantage as our girls started to tire and came out winners 5-0 though Megan and Claire put up a really good fight in their doubles game.

After this the girls looked very flat and tired as they had given their everything into the previous games and this led to them losing in the 3rd place play-off to Wilnecot, a team they had already beat.

The girls are a real credit to the school both in terms of the performance they showed to become the 4th best school team in Staffordshire and the positive way they represented the school. Special mention to Jasmine Mohemmedi who only lost 2 games all tournament an excellent effort as she was playing against the top seeded player from every school.

Year 9 Boys Level 3 County Games Badminton

The year 9 boys – Blaine Batkin, Ethan Brookfield, Brandon Teague and Corey Bristow also qualified for the event they played against Weston Road Academy, Paulet School, Wilnecot and King Edward VI. They managed to beat Wilnecot 3-2 but unfortunately ran out on the wrong side of 3-2 score line from the other schools. The boys played some good badminton and were very competitive in all their games with Blaine Batkin being unbeaten in his singles games.
