Message from the Principal

I am delighted to announce that Y8 students, Gemma Brindley, Alicia Hackett and Abby Jahallori have gone through to the Regional Rotary Club Youth Speaks Final. They have already won the Stoke-on-Trent finals and then the District finals. It is also worthy of note, that St. Peter’s are the first state school to have ever made it to the Regional Finals for our District. Evidence of how amazing the girls were and indeed are.

The finals take place on Saturday 23rd March 2019 at North Leamington School and we are all very proud of their achievements. A special mention should also go to Miss Bowler and Mrs O’Connor for supporting the girls throughout the process

Comments from Mr C Freeman, organizer for the Rotary Club of Stoke-on-Trent SASCAL Youth Speaking Competition:

Many congratulations on your team's wonderful success last night.  All three of the team performed at a very high level and the performance was captivating from start to finish.  Although to my mind the St. Peter’s team were the obvious winners it was very close and Ormiston Horizon pushed you very hard.  Talking to the judges at the end of the evening it was clear that the "difficult decision" was centred on whether Ormiston or St. Peter's were the winners - rather than either of the other two teams being in the running.

I thought Gemma was a superb main speaker - she held the audience in the palm of her hand and used a range of communication techniques – she is clearly a natural.  She answered the question particularly well.   Alicia and Abby were strong supporters and brought their own personalities to the presentation.  They are to be congratulated and, I’m sure, will do well in the regional finals.  I have now sent the entries off to Cressida Dickens (last night’s organiser) and she will forward the details to the regional organiser.

The regional finals are on Saturday 23rd March 2019 at North Leamington School, Sandy Lane, Blackdown, Royal Leaminton Spa, Warwickshire, CV32 6RD.  I do not yet have a start time or any other details but will get these details to you as soon as possible.  You are welcome to take any staff, parents, friends that you wish to the regional final.

Thank you for confirming that the St. Peter’s team is able to come to the Rotary Club's presentation evening where there will be another opportunity for the team to give the presentation and have their success acclaimed.  It is at the Grand Hotel in Trinity Street on Monday 1st April starting at 5.30pm and will finish at around 6.15pm.  The welcome is extended to your Principal, the pupils, school staff, parents and friends.

I have always found Gemma, Alicia and Abby to be receptive to constructive comments.  As I say they were outstanding and will do well anyway in the regionals.
