SASCAL Youth Speaking Competition

We are extremely proud of three of our Year 9 students Emma Poppinger, Aiden Campbell and Sarah Porter who represented the Academy at the SASCAL Youth Speaking Competition on Thursday 4th September.

The Youth Speaking Competition is jointly organised by SASCAL (the Stoke-on-Trent Association of Schools, Colleges and Academy Leaders), the Rotary Club of Stoke-on-Trent and the Sixth Form College.

The Youth Speaking Competition is a public speaking competition with an aim to help develop literacy and oracy skills in those taking part. The concept of the competition is very simple, a team of three students consisting of Chairman, Main Speaker and Proposer of Thanks gives a talk on a topic chosen by themselves within a broad time limit of just under 15 minutes.

Ten schools from across Stoke-on-Trent entered the competition and after the semi-finals which took place on Thursday 4th February, in which six schools, including St Peter's took part, our team are through to the Finals which will take place at Stoke 6th Form College on Wednesday 10th February.

Everyone here at St Peter's extends a huge congratulations to Emma, Aiden and Sarah, they performed exceptionally well and were true ambassadors for the Academy.
