Harvest Festival - Thank you from the Food Bank

To All at St Peter’s Academy

On behalf of the Newcastle Staffs Foodbank, I am writing to thank you for your tremendous donation of food from your Harvest celebration – your donations have helped us provide over 400 meals to people in crisis in the Newcastle area.

The Newcastle Staffs Foodbank is part of a network of 428 foodbanks (with nearly 1400 centres) nationwide that are sponsored by the Trussell Trust but work independently in their local area.

Every day people in the UK go hungry for reasons ranging from redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income. Trussell Trust foodbanks provide a minimum of three days emergency food and support to people experiencing crisis in the UK.

In 2011-12 foodbanks fed 128,687 people nationwide, in 2012-13 this number had risen to 346,992 people nationwide, in 2013-14 913,138, in 2014-15 to over one million and 1.1 million in 2015-16. Of those helped, 415,866 were children. Rising costs of food and fuel combined with static income, high unemployment and changes to benefits are causing more and more people to come to foodbanks for help.

At the Newcastle Staffs Foodbank we have fed over 14500 people, including over 5000 children, since we opened in December 2012 and continue to feed about 70 people a week in 2016.

The Newcastle Staffs Foodbank has two warehouses in Silverdale and Parkhouse industrial estate.

We also have six distribution centres at Clayton, Silverdale, Chesterton, Kidsgrove, Newcastle town centre and Madeley.

More details on the work of Foodbank can be found by following this website link www.newcastlestaffs.foodbank.org.uk, where you will find information on our distribution centres and how you can support the work that we do, either by donating non perishable food or funding to support our running costs.

Once again, many thanks for your support.

Yours sincerely,

Peter Till

Newcastle Staffs Foodbank.
