ENGLISH
The English Faculty
The study of fiction and non-fiction writing is at the heart of our culture and literacy skills are crucial to children’s learning across all subjects. Without literacy, all other learning is impossible and today’s young people will enter an adult world where they will read and write more than at any other time in human history.
In the English Faculty, at St Peter’s CofE Academy, we teach young people confidence in and an enjoyment of reading, writing and speaking in English lessons. Our pupils learn to speak and write fluently so that they can communicate their ideas and emotions; through their reading and listening, others can communicate with them.
The English classroom is a place where we can all be excited by literature and language and where imagination and creativity are nurtured. We strive to instil pupils with a love of reading so they develop the habit of reading widely and often, for pleasure and information throughout their lives.
After all, “After nourishment, shelter and companionship, stories are the thing we need most in the world.” Philip Pullman
