Theology

The study of belief, religious or otherwise, is vital to understanding what it means to be human. It is concerned with how humanity makes sense of its origins, purpose and destiny in relation to the divine. It requires an inquiring mind open to new ways of thinking. It offers broad training in how to think critically, logically and with empathy.

Studying religious and secular beliefs provides students with the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the modern world and their place in it. Regular opportunities are planned to discuss, present and write about a range of religious, philosophical, moral and ethical issues, including the nature of God, the debate between science and religion and the importance of preventing racism.

Right to Withdraw from Religious Education (RE)

Parents/carers have the legal right to withdraw their child, either wholly or partly, from Religious Education (RE) lessons. If a parent/carer wishes to exercise this right, they should contact the Principal in writing to discuss the request and any arrangements that may be required.

As a school, we value Religious Education as an important part of pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. However, we recognise and respect the legal right of parents/carers to withdraw their child from all or part of RE in accordance with current legislation.

The school will respect the wishes of parents/carers and make appropriate alternative supervision arrangements for pupils who are withdrawn from all or part of RE. We encourage parents/carers to discuss any concerns with the school before making a decision so that we can provide further information about the RE curriculum and its educational aims.
